Choosing the Right Neurotoxin: A Guide to Popular Options

Many of us are looking for ways to enhance our appearance and help combat the signs of aging. While exercise, staying hydrated, and having a proper skin routine is key, neurotoxins have also become a popular way to rejuvenate the skin. Popular treatments such as Botox®,  Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and Dysport® are great options, but it can be confusing to know which is the best for our needs. Today we will explore the differences between these neurotoxins, how they work, and how HYDRO Med Spa can help you choose the right choice for your aesthetic goals.

Choosing the Right Neurotoxin

What Do Neuromodulators (Neurotoxins) Do And What Are They Used For?

Neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins, work to temporarily paralyze facial muscles from softening and contracting, helping to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles. These are perfect for removing or reducing frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and facial wrinkles, giving you a smooth facial appearance. They can also be used for other purposes such as in the armpits for excessive sweating or for skin conditions such as plaque psoriasis.

These neurotoxins can be used as a preventative or for active visible signs of aging. While they are a great and quick fix for wrinkles and lines, they are not sustainable to be used alone as a long-term solution. Using neuromodulators in conjunction with other treatment options that promote collagen and elastin stimulation are key to long-term youthful skin appearance.

What Options Are Available?

There are many different injection options available, each with different benefits. The four most popular options include:

  • Botox®

The most well-known neurotoxin injection, Botox is commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, frown, and crow’s feet.

  • Xeomin®

Similar to Botox, Xeomin is free from accessory proteins and is an alternative to Botox treatments. It is also used to treat areas around the forehead, frown, and crow’s feet. Xeomin has similar results as Botox.

  • Jeuveau®

Jeuveau is a newer option on the market that acts similar to Botox and Xeomin by relaxing the muscles and blocking signals from the brain causing them to contract.

  • Dysport®

Is a faster-acting neurotoxin that tends to spread to a larger area due to its diffusion, making it a good option for larger areas such as the forehead. Dysport is typically offered at a lower cost per unit but may require more units compared to Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau.

What Is The Longevity and How Often Do I Need Injections?

All neurotoxins work differently for every person. Here at HYDRO Med Spa, we recommend our clients rotate between various types so as not to develop resistance to one brand over another. We work with you to develop a customized treatment plan that is tailored to your needs and budget.

On average, our clients can see results for around 3 months, but this will vary depending on the individual. Some individuals may have longer lasting results and others may have shorter due to genetics, facial anatomy, or not following aftercare instructions properly. We recommend treatments at least 90 days apart to reduce drug resistance. Also, just because one neurotic is more expensive, does not mean it works better!

Which Option Is Best For Me?

With so many options, it can be difficult to determine the right neurotoxin for you and your needs. Consulting with an experienced practitioner on our team here at HYDRO Med Spa is important to develop a plan tailored to you and your budget. We take a personalized approach to each client’s treatment to ensure that you get the best results with the right injectable for your skin needs.
